Do you easily blush? Then North Eleuthera is your destination. Its beaches are known as the “blushing beaches,” and, no, not because they’re for the au naturel set. It’s because the sand is so rosey pink. Surrounded by the Atlantic AND the Caribbean, North Eleuthera offers water sports from gnarly surfing to relaxing on a float, drink in hand. Throw in some quaint towns, lush pineapple fields, captivating caves, and hidden swimming holes, and you’ve got all the elements of a great time.

When you land on North Eleuthera, you’ll likely ferry to either Spanish Wells or Dunmore Town on Harbour Island, the two main towns. Bikes, golf carts, scooters or feet are the preferred modes of transportation in both, and you won’t have far to go to find the perfect beach, or to view the cutest New England-style houses this side of Cape Cod. Go a little farther afield in a rental car or by tour and see the settlement called Current, where the ocean and sea flow together, or, on the eastern side, visit the famous Glass Bridge to have a unique view of the two bodies of water. Nearby, the Queen’s Baths await for some soaking fun at low tide.

North Eleuthera is a beach and water sports lover’s paradise. Surfing in The Bahamas? Yes. Atlantic swells are best at Holiday or Surfer’s Beaches. Diving at Devil’s Backbone or Current Cut offer exceptional underwater features like sunken ships. Mellower boating, jetskiing, SUP’ing and kayaking is done on the Caribbean side. Need a break from the water? Hikers will find, with local help, plenty of scenic little trails and paths through the woods and fields.

Handmade local crafts can be found across North Eleuthera, including Gregory Town to the south and Spanish Wells at the north end. Hop the five-minute water taxi ride to posh Harbour Island for luxury shopping, dining and celebrity sightings.

Many North Eleuthera restaurants offer traditional island favorites like cracked conch, Bahamian lobster, chicken, and pork, often with delicious, fresh local pineapple as an ingredient. Continental and American favorites are available for the homesick.
