8/1/2024: New CDC Rules for Dog Travel
Effective August 1, 2024, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has introduced new requirements for the entry of all dogs into the United States and Puerto Rico. These rules apply to dogs traveling in the cabin, as checked baggage, and even to assistance dogs. More information on the new regulations can be found on the CDC website.
One of the new requirements is the completion of this official form a few days before the date of travel. In the yellow box at the top of the form, you must state whether or not the dog has been in a country or region at high risk of rabies infection in the last six months. If that is the case, additional information will be required.
After submitting the form, you will receive a receipt that you must show in printed or digital format at the Silver Airways check-in desk both on the day of your departure flight and when you arrive in the United States, along with any other required documents for your dog.
We strongly recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes prior to your originally scheduled flight time to ensure you have ample time to complete this process.
If your dog has been in a high-risk area and you do not have a valid vaccination certificate issued in the United States, or an export health certificate approved by the USDA, entry will only be permitted through one of the six airports that have CDC animal care facilities: Atlanta, Los Angeles, Washington, New York, Miami or Philadelphia. You must also pre-book your dog's stay at these facilities.
Please note: Silver Airways will not accept any dogs flying from Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI) to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) unless they are registered service dogs and meet all CDC requirements. This policy is in accordance with the new CDC regulations and is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers.
